What I’ve learned in the past 24 Years . . .
It was recruiting season, in the year 2000. I was in law school and gunning for that perfect big firm summer associate position. What no one told me is that the interviewing process would involve lunch. At a fancy restaurant. With fancy food. And more silverware than I’d ever seen having grown up in a small Illinois town where a big night out was Red Lobster.
Don’t worry, 2Ls, that’s not the case anymore.
But in 2000, we lunched, all while maintaining clever conversation. Whew, do I have stories from that time of how I bungled those lunches (accidentally ordering an alcoholic drink, broccoli stuck in my teeth . . . . crab cakes saved me . . . easy to cut with only one utensil), but for now I’ll leave it at . . . no one told me we lunched.
That’s the whole point of this blog! There are hundreds, if not thousands, of tiny and huge things that no one tells you about how to be a successful professional. I would like to share with you what I’ve learned in the last 24 years while working as a big firm lawyer, raising three amazing humans, building a successful law firm, and co-founding a successful law firm back office company. I’m going to do that through short blogs and videos posted on social media
Here’s a sample of what I plan on sharing:
- TLDR (Too Long Didn’t Read) and how to manage it
- How to never waste time and miss meetings
- The most annoying and effective tool – friendly follow-up
- How to build strong client relationships
- How to run projects like a pro
- How to wrangle your time (and transcend your perceived capacity)
- The “Art” of practicing law
- How to confidently talk about money
- The best way to receive your full value
- How to build the culture of your dreams
- And many more . . .
I hope you join me on this adventure, and if you have something you’d like me to talk about, please email, comment, etc. Time is our most valuable resource, and I want to bring value to your life in reading/watching this. I’m unendingly grateful for your support and interest!
